Dad's Old Hunting Gun

Dad's Old Hunting Gun

Dad's Old Hunting Gun

More Than a Firearm. A Lifetime of Memories.

There are some things in life that simply cannot be replaced.

For me, one of those things is my dad's old hunting gun.

To some, it's a rifle made of steel and walnut.

To me, it's mornings before sunrise... the smell of fresh coffee... quiet walks through the woods... and a man who worked hard every day to provide for his family.

There were times when that old hunting gun wasn't simply used for recreation. It helped put food on our table when our family needed it most. Dad never bragged about that. He simply did what fathers have done for generations—he quietly took care of the people he loved.

He was proud of that rifle.

Not because it was expensive.

Not because it was rare.

Because it represented responsibility.

Today, Dad is no longer here.

The woods are quieter.

The conversations have become memories.

But every time I see that old hunting gun, I remember far more than a hunting trip.

I remember the man who carried it.

Don't Leave the Story in the Closet

When someone we love passes away, we often protect the things they left behind by carefully putting them away.

We place them in closets.

Safes.

Cabinets.

Attics.

We tell ourselves they're safe there.

And they are.

But something else quietly disappears.

The memories become hidden right alongside them.

Every family heirloom has a story to tell.

If no one sees it...

If no one asks about it...

Eventually that story grows silent.

A Place of Honor

I don't believe memories belong hidden in a closet.

I believe they deserve to be seen.

Displayed with pride.

Shared with children and grandchildren who may one day ask,

"Whose rifle was that?"

That's when the stories begin again.

You don't simply point to a firearm.

You tell them about their grandfather.

About early mornings.

About sacrifice.

About love.

About the man who quietly provided for his family.

The display isn't there to showcase a rifle.

It's there to keep a story alive.

Why I Build Displays

People often ask me why I build gun displays.

The answer has never really been about the wood.

It's about what the wood holds.

Every display that leaves my shop has the opportunity to preserve something much greater than a collection.

It preserves a memory.

A life.

A legacy.

If my work encourages one family to take an old hunting gun out of the closet and place it where its story can continue to be told...

Then every hour spent in my shop has been worthwhile.

Because some memories deserve more than storage.

They deserve a place of honor.
